Glenormiston College history
Once home to the Gunditjmara people, the Glenormiston College story begins in 1949 when the Department of Agriculture acquired a parcel of land to conduct agricultural research. The 281-hectare property is a remnant of the former Glenormiston Estate and includes the original mansion built by Neil Black.
Training was first delivered at the College in 1971 when 56 students enrolled in a farm management program. Short courses commenced in 1972 and during the ensuing years a range of innovative courses and delivery methods to suit the needs of practicing farmers were introduced.
The 1980s and 1990s were decades of transition, as government portfolios were restructured and new study areas were introduced. From 1993—2006 Glenormiston College was managed by the University of Melbourne, then in 2006 when the University divested of its agricultural campuses, South West Institute of TAFE successfully tendered for the opportunity to take over its operations.
